Case study of CIJ inkjet coding on microwave food packaging. Expiration dates and batch numbers printed on film lids and trays for frozen and ready meals.
Application Overview
This case study presents a CIJ (Continuous Inkjet) coding application for microwave food packaging including film lids and plastic trays. The facility required reliable, high-speed marking directly on product surfaces and packaging materials.
Challenge
The existing coding method produced inconsistent print quality on curved film surfaces, leading to unreadable codes. The codes needed to remain legible through freezing and microwave reheating.
Solution
We deployed a compatible CIJ inkjet printer configured with optimized ink for the target substrate. The CIJ system printed directly on film lids and trays with fast-drying ink resistant to condensation.
Result
The facility achieved consistent, readable codes on all microwave meal packaging with zero line stoppages. The CIJ system also reduced overall coding costs through our compatible consumables program.
