Why Willett Consumables Get Forgotten
These machines were sold in real numbers across dairy, beverage, snack and cable plants, and they lasted. A mixed floor — one Willett, one larger platform coder, a handheld for carton marking — gets a formal supply plan for the biggest unit and improvised handling for everything else.

Push for a mixed carton. It is the single concession that decides whether a spares shelf earns its space or ties up cash for a year. When a supplier refuses, ask what mixing actually costs them. Sometimes the answer is honest logistics. Sometimes it is only habit.
Keep Ink, Solvent and Chips on One Sheet
Buy ink, make-up solvent and chips from the same counter when you can. The reason is not loyalty, it is diagnosis. When a code prints faint at two in the morning, one phone call should cover every suspect on the list — the chip, the ink batch, the solvent ratio, the filter.
Split those across three vendors and you get three polite explanations and a stopped line. If you are building a consumables supply, build it complete, and keep the part numbers on a single sheet that a night shift can actually find.
Testing the First Bag
Test on the machine that will run the chips, not the one nearest the door. Run a full shift rather than a single print, because the failures worth catching show up after an hour of constant use, not in the first ten minutes.
Keep one chip from every batch in a labelled bag with the date written on it. A year later that bag answers questions no email thread will, and it costs nothing to keep. For plants that hold several brands, this habit is what turns a shelf of loose bags into a supply record.
Spares Levels for Machines That Cannot Stop
Most plants hold two to four weeks of chips and nothing beyond it. Chips do not spoil the way ink does, but reels get misplaced and firmware drifts, so old stock quietly becomes scrap.
