DM-Codierer überleben häufig ihren eigenen Papierkram. Die Anlage installiert eine Linie, die Serviceakte verschwindet irgendwo zwischen zwei Instandhaltern, und fünf Jahre später sind die einzigen gesicherten Fakten, dass die Maschine noch vierzigtausend Codes pro Schicht druckt und dass der Chip in der Kartusche jedes Mal korrekt gelesen werden muss. Kompatible Chips für so eine Maschine zu beschaffen ist kein Einkauf, sondern eine Identifizierung.

Die meisten Einkäufer verstehen das nach einer schlechten Lieferung, nicht davor.

Warum ein DM-Park schwerer zu versorgen ist, als er aussieht

Zwei Geräte mit demselben Typenschild können vier oder fünf Baujahre auseinanderliegen. Irgendwo in der Mitte dieser Serie wurde die Steuerplatine geändert, und der Chip, der das eine Gerät zufriedenstellt, tut das beim Nachbargerät nicht immer.

Händler lernen das auf die teure Art: Eine Rolle verteilt sich über ein Gebiet, und innerhalb eines Monats melden drei Kunden denselben Fehler. Eine Revisionsliste löst das meiste davon. Eine Seite, die Chiprevision und Firmware-Generation verknüpft und bei jedem Platinenwechsel im Feld nachgeführt wird.

Die Firmware-Frage kommt vor dem Preis

Fragen Sie, gegen welchen Firmware-Bereich die Produktionscharge getestet wurde und an welchem Datum. Die Antwort trennt einen Hersteller von einem Wiederverkäufer mit einer Kiste Beutel.

Die Frage ist berechtigt und wird selten offen abgelehnt. Was man stattdessen bekommt, ist etwas Schwammiges, und das ist für sich genommen schon ein Ergebnis. Ein uns bekannter Händler schreibt das Prüfdatum genau deshalb außen auf jede Kiste. Seine Rücksendungen halbierten sich in einem Quartal, nicht weil die Chips anders waren, sondern weil falsche Beutel nicht mehr rausgingen.

Womit der Chip tatsächlich übereinstimmen muss

Mit drei Dingen, in dieser Reihenfolge: den Identifikationsdaten, die die Steuerung erwartet; Format und Timing, in dem diese Daten ankommen; und der Firmware-Generation auf der Platine, die sie liest.

Die ersten beiden lassen sich leicht besprechen, und jeder bespricht sie. Am dritten Punkt zerfallen Angebote. Ein Chip für eine ältere Firmware-Generation druckt oft eine Woche lang sauber, danach beginnt die Steuerung Kartuschen abzulehnen – und zu dem Zeitpunkt liegt die Charge bereits bei drei Kunden.

Ein Angebot wie ein Einkaufsdokument lesen

Ein brauchbares Angebot nennt Kartuschenfamilie, Chiprevision, Firmware-Bereich und Prüfdatum. Alles Kürzere ist eine Ausgangsposition, kein Preis.

Achten Sie auf eine Teilenummer, die still zwei Revisionen abdeckt. Meist passiert das, weil eine alte Rolle nie ausgebucht wurde, und es zeigt sich später als zwei oder drei Ausfälle pro Hundert, die niemand zurückverfolgen kann. Auch der Stückpreis schönt sich: Bezahlt wird der Chip am Einbauort – Fracht, Prüfstandausfälle, eine Lieferung mit falscher Revision und die Stunde, in der ein Techniker herausfindet, welcher von drei Verdächtigen die Linie gestoppt hat.

Die Sache mit der gemischten Kiste

Mindestmengen für Chips werden pro Beutel gerechnet, was dem Lieferanten passt und jeden bestraft, der einen gemischten Maschinenpark fährt. Es gibt immer eine Kartuschenfamilie, die kaum läuft – und immer ist sie die, die die Produktion stoppt.

Bestehen Sie auf der gemischten Kiste. Für einen Händler entscheidet genau diese Konzession, ob das Regal seinen Platz verdient oder ein Jahr lang Kapital bindet. Wenn ein Lieferant ablehnt, fragen Sie, was Mischen tatsächlich kostet. Manchmal ist die Antwort Logistik. Öfter ist es Gewohnheit.

Testen Sie an der Maschine, die sie fahren wird

Ein Prüfstandstest beweist bei einem Codierchip fast nichts. Die Fehler, die es zu fangen gilt, zeigen sich nach einer Stunde Dauerbetrieb, nicht in den ersten zehn Minuten – und sie zeigen sich auf der Platine, die den Chip liest, nicht auf dem Prüfstand, der ihn versorgt.

Fahren Sie also den ersten Beutel an dem Gerät, das die Charge tatsächlich verbraucht, eine volle Schicht lang, und legen Sie von jeder Charge einen Chip in einen beschrifteten Beutel mit Datum. Ein Jahr später beantwortet dieser Beutel Fragen, die kein E-Mail-Verlauf beantwortet.

Rollenalter und der Haltbarkeitsmythos

Chips sind keine Tinte. Sie laufen nicht an dem aufgedruckten Datum ab, und genau deshalb machen sie Ärger. Eine Rolle kann drei Jahre im Regal liegen, zwei Firmware-Updates der eigenen Maschine überstehen und dann verbaut werden, weil sie vorne stand.

Zwei Gewohnheiten lösen das meiste. Schreiben Sie beim Wareneingang die Firmware-Version auf den Beutel, nicht die Typennummer. Und rotieren Sie nach der Maschine, für die der Beutel gekauft wurde, denn ein Chip, der auf einem Gerät einwandfrei ist, kann zwei Meter weiter Ausschuss sein.

Drei Zahlen vor jeder Nachbestellung

Erstmontage-Quote. Rücksendungen pro hundert versandter Beutel. Und die Zeit, die Ihr Lieferant braucht, um um elf Uhr abends ans Telefon zu gehen.

Alle drei sind billig zu erfassen und sagen mehr als jede Preisliste. Über achtundneunzig Prozent Erstmontage-Quote hält die Marge. Unter fünfundneunzig ist der billige Beutel der teure, und die Diskussion über den Stückpreis war nie die eigentliche Diskussion.
