Un código de lote que no se lee casi nunca es máquina averiada. Contraste, altura, zona de silencio, datos y chip: revisiones que ahorran una visita.

Una codificadora cuyo código no se lee rara vez está averiada. Imprime, el operario ve un código y el escáner al final de la línea no está de acuerdo. En esa distancia entre «a mí me parece bien» y una lectura fallida vive la mayor parte de los problemas de número de lote. Conviene seguir este orden antes de pedir servicio.

Primero el contraste, luego el hardware

Imprima sobre el material que la línea usa de verdad, no sobre un recorte blanco del banco. El material decide el contraste más que cualquier ajuste. Cartón kraft, film coloreado y laminado brillante dan tres tasas distintas con la misma configuración.

Haga primero una pregunta: ¿este código se leía la semana pasada en este mismo producto? Si sí, nada cambió en la máquina — cambió el material. Eso apunta a la entrada de material, no a la tinta.

Altura, proporción y zona de silencio

El código debe ser lo bastante alto para que el escáner lo resuelva y lo bastante corto para caber en el espacio disponible. Meta un número de lote en una banda de dos milímetros y la tasa de lectura cae rápido.

Después revise la zona de silencio. Un logotipo o una junta de caja pegados al código son la primera causa de esas lecturas intermitentes que nadie logra reproducir.

Cuando los datos son el problema

Una parte notable de los fallos no tiene que ver con la calidad de impresión. El código se lee, el escáner lo acepta y el sistema de trazabilidad rechaza el registro porque el formato no coincide con lo que espera el host.

Dos cosas pasan. El formato de fecha se invierte cuando alguien edita una plantilla en el cambio de turno. O el contador se reinicia y dos lotes de la misma semana llevan el mismo número. Ambas parecen fallos del escáner. Ninguna lo es.

Chips compatibles y lecturas intermitentes

En una codificadora con chip de cartucho compatible, un código perdido tiene un sospechoso más. Si el controlador lee los datos de identificación tarde o de forma intermitente, la impresión sigue cayendo, pero el desfase basta para afectar cómo se deposita el código en una línea rápida.

Separar esto de su configuración es sencillo. Monte un chip bueno conocido de un lote que lea limpio y ejecute el mismo trabajo. Si las lecturas vuelven, el chip es la variable. Guarde un chip de referencia en su bolsa para esta prueba.
Convierte una discusión de dos días en una comprobación de veinte minutos.

Qué fijar en el cambio de turno

Escriba la tasa de lectura en la hoja de relevo, no solo que la línea funcionó. Una codificadora al noventa y ocho por ciento y otra al ochenta y cinco parecen idénticas desde el otro extremo de la nave, y ambas se reportan como en marcha. Anote al lado el lote de material. Cuando dos semanas después el código deje de leerse, esa línea dirá si cambió el material o la máquina.
